Adding Proposed Wells

A Wells Proposed layer appears in the Layer Legend and can be selected for visibility and inspection just like other map layers. If you attempt to create a proposed well without enabling visibility of the proposed well layer, or if you select the proposed well selection tool, AccuMap automatically enables visibility of the proposed well layer. The layer properties of proposed wells can be changed just like system wells in the Wells layer.

Create a proposed well using the Proposed Wells tab. In the Create group of the Proposed Wells tab, there are options to either click on the map in the location where to create the proposed well, or to launch the Add Proposed Well dialog box, where you populate proposed well details without having to click the map first.

The fields you entered when creating the proposed well can be exported, queried, and posted around the bottom-hole, and can be modified using the DataCard after the well is created.

Export proposed wells in a .csv file that can be shared with and imported by other AccuMap users using Import Manager, or export proposed wells as files that can be used with other applications. Proposed well data can also be exported in Microsoft Excel format using Export Manager.

Select the All Proposed Wells option from the Select option so that you can either edit or remove all of your proposed wells. This can be handy, for example, where you maintain a master list of proposed wells that you import into AccuMap on a recurring basis. You can delete all of your proposed wells in AccuMap before importing the master list to ensure the proposed wells in AccuMap reflect the latest master list.

To add proposed wells

Using the Ribbon toolbar, with the Proposed Wells tab displayed, click either On Map or Location Entry in the Create group.

If you selected the On Map option above, the cursor appears as a cross hairs, and you do one of the following on the map, depending on the type of well to create:
Vertical - double-click the location of the top hole. The surface and bottom hole share a single lat/long.
Deviated - click the location of the top hole, then move the cursor and double-click a different location for the bottom hole. If you single-click the second point instead of double-clicking it, that point becomes the landing point and your well becomes a horizontal well.
Horizontal - click the location of the top hole, move the cursor and click a different location for the landing point, and then click a third location for the bottom hole.

For both the On Map and Location Entry options, the Add Proposed Well dialog box appears.

Do either of the following, depending on the option you selected above, and then click OK:

On Map - type a value for at least the Well Name.
Location Entry - type a value for the Well Name and location info.

The surface hole, heel, and bottom hole can be moved by hovering the cursor over one of those points on the map until a crosshairs appears, and then dragging the point to the desired location.

Well details can be added or changed at any time by clicking Select () in the Edit group of the Proposed Wells tab, right-clicking the proposed well, and then selecting DataCard... to reveal the DataCard where you click Edit in the top-right corner of the Proposed Well pane to make the fields editable. You can also launch the proposed well in Wellbore 3D Viewer () using the DataCard, or by right-clicking a proposed well while using Inspect mode and selecting Wellbore 3D Viewer from the context menu.
If you change the location fields, when you click Done the proposed well is drawn at the new location on the map.
To display multiple proposed wells in the navigation pane of the DataCard, with the Select () option enabled, drag to select the desired proposed wells, or press Ctrl or Shift while clicking the proposed wells to include, and then right-click the top hole and select DataCard from the context menu.
To display all proposed wells in the navigation pane of the DataCard, from the Select () drop-down list, select All Proposed Wells, and then right-click the top hole of one of the selected wells and select DataCard from the context menu. Shift+Click or Ctrl+Click for multiselection. To clear all of the selected wells, click the map where a well is not located. The Create Copy and ...Landing Point options don't appear in the context menu if more than one proposed well is already selected.
With the Select option enabled. right-click a well and from the context menu, select whether to create a copy of the well with either the same surface hole (add a leg), or a different surface hole (separate well).

You create the well just as you created the well above, with the exception that where you specified Same Surface Location, the top hole is already created for you. All the original data (except for the current Inventory Number) is automatically copied from the parent well to the new well.
Using the context menu, you can also select whether to remove a landing point (for a deviated or horizontal well).
Post from the data fields that you populated using the Add Proposed Well dialog box r the DataCard. Using the Data tab, from the Posting option, select Wells Proposed. You can post to all wells, attached lists, or to a specific list. Postings only appear at the bottom-hole.
Query proposed wells. If any part of the well is included in the query area, the well is automatically included in the query.
Print proposed wells.
