Datasets Plot Options
The type well plot options provided on the Datasets tab enable you to change the axis selections, color management, and to select the wells included in rate calculations. For additional information, see the Type Well Features video (opens in a new window, mp4 file).
The Datasets tab icons include the following:
-
(Show / Hide Average Rate) — Click this icon to show / hide
the average rate on the plot. The arithmetic average of all selected
wells is determined in each period. - P90 — Click this icon to show / hide the P90 rate on the plot.
- P50 — Click this icon to show / hide the P50 rate on the plot.
- P10 — Click this icon to show / hide the P10 rate on the plot.
-
Show / Hide Wells — Click this icon to show / hide individual wells on the plot.
The percentiles for each series are calculated from all selected wells in each series.
Note: When only one well remains in the type well history, the P90 / P50 / P10 lines collapse to the same value. An unrealistic "best fit" can result if this portion of data is included. At this point, we recommend using the Select Data Series and Range function. For more information on the calculation of the P90 / 50 / 10 values, see Type Well Theory.
X-Axis
- Normalized Time — This option plots well data as cumulative time from 'time zero' (0 on the x-axis) rather than as dates. Time periods are displayed in increments of months or days. If the increments are mixed within the group, the lowest-resolution time period is used to ensure consistency. When the average line is calculated, each producing well's rate is averaged at each period.
- Normalized Flowing Time — This option is similar to normalized time, but all shut-in, missing, or blank periods are removed from each well's production history.
- Cumulative Production — Production volume is displayed based on volume produced per time period. (The period size is the one the data is imported in.) When creating the average well, all wells are aggregated to the lowest resolution period, and the average production volume and rate are determined for each period.
Y-Axis
- Rate — This option displays the rates for each well in the group and uses these rates to create the average well's rate.
- Normalized Rate — Using this option, well rates in each period are divided by the initial rate. The average well displays the average of the normalized rates. This option can only be used when Normalized Flowing Time or Cumulative Production is displayed on the x-axis. (Normalized Time cannot be used, because it permits zeros in the production history, and an initial rate of zero could result in a failed calculation.)
- Cumulative Production — Production volume is displayed based on volume produced per time period. (The period size is the one the data is imported in.) When creating the average well, all wells are aggregated to the lowest resolution period, and the average production volume and rate are determined for each period.
- Rate per Attribute — Well rates are normalized (i.e., divided) by the value of the selected attribute. If the attribute is blank, the well's production history is not displayed.
Color Management
- All Unique — Displays all individual well data using a unique color for each well. This is the default option.
- Grayscale — Displays all individual well data in gray. This makes it easier to view average rates.
- By Attribute — Individual wells are grouped by color according to their chosen attribute (i.e., attributes are displayed from an expanded tree when this radio button is selected). Note that only one attribute may be selected at a time.
Wells Included in Rate Calculations
- All Wells — Includes production periods with zero or null values in calculations.
- Producing Wells — Includes only those production periods with non-null and greater than zero values in calculations. This is the default option.
Other
- Op. Rate — Displays the well's Operated Day Rate.
- Cal. Rate — Displays the well's Calendar Day Rate.
- Number of Producing Wells — This additional data series displays the number of wells with non-zero production of the selected fluid type in each period.
- Aggregate of Sublevel — When a hierarchy group more than one level above the individual wells is selected, the wells within all subgroups are displayed by default. With this option, you can display the aggregated subgroups in place of individual wells.
Resolution
- Daily / Monthly Toggles – you can switch between daily and monthly.
