Log gas rate (log-log)

Return to the data diagnostics flowchart

Does the rate have a sharp decline when plotted on a logarithmic scale?

  • The log scales tend to accentuate the problem, which may not be evident in Cartesian coordinates. The scale compression of large-time values accompanied by the scale expansion of low rates makes the problem more visible.
  • A sharp decline on a log-log plot indicates a problem.

Reasons for inconsistencies:

  • An abnormal decrease in the gas rate can indicate liquid loading.
  • Often accompanied by the production of liquids.
