Configuring Log Layout

A track is a column beneath a well header where either a log (raster or digital), or a depth marker appears. The order of logs and depth tracks defines the log layout for a well. The log layout assigns certain logs to tracks. Tracks are numbered from left to right and you can display as many logs and depth tracks in as many tracks as you wish. For example, you can display several porosity logs with different logging methods (bulk or neutron density) in separate tracks with further matrix classifications (dolomite, limestone, or sandstone).

The track type that matches the log type to display (raster or digital) must be enabled in order for the desired log to appear in the cross section. A digital log cannot be displayed in a raster log track, nor can a raster log be displayed in the digital log track. Neither digital or raster logs can be displayed in a depth track. For proprietary tracks, if the proprietary log is loaded in the AccuLogs datbase, it is autoatically loaded.

After you define the log types and associated logging methods that appear in a cross section, save these criteria to a template for future use.

When the log type displayed in a raster track is changed, a new raster image with a different ID is pulled from the S&P Global Data Information Hub. If the log displayed in the raster track of a non-proprietary well is a proprietary log, the proprietary log is replaced by a raster from the S&P Global Data Information Hub. If the proprietary log is an LAS file instead of a raster log, different curves as defined by the track configuration might be pulled from the proprietary digital log, but the proprietary log itself won't change.

To configure log layout

  1. Click Log Layout () in the Configuration group of the Wells tab in the main ribbon.
    OR
To change the default preferences, click File () >  Preferences, and then the Log Layout tab.

The Log Layout: Log Layout dialog box appears.

  1. Depending on whether to add a new track or modify an existing track, click either Add or select a track to modify and click Edit to display the Track Definition dialog box, where you specify the desired log type and logging method.
  1. Click Apply or OK to apply these changes to only the current cross section, or click Apply and Save As Defaults to apply these changes to the existing well or cross section as well as all new wells or cross sections.
