You can globally create sonic porosity curves for an entire project using DT curves. You may need to do this in the following cases:
There are DT curves but not sonic porosity curves in your cross section.
There are recorded sonic porosity curves in your cross section, but you would like to generate sonic porosity curves based on the unique matrix DT.
If you are using the sonic log to estimate effective porosity and are not going to create SPHI-NPHI crossovers, you don’t need to generate sonic porosity curves from DT. AccuX can use the direct DT to calculate effective porosity compensated for the presence of shale. Using direct DT is preferable because you can set a unique matrix DT for each target zone (sandstone, limestone, or dolomite).
To globally create sonic porosity
curves
1. From the Global menu, select Global Digital Curve Manager.
The Global Digital Curve Manager
dialog box appears.
2. In the left list area, select the curve upon which to base your sonic porosity curve (typically DT) then click create sonic porosity.
The Porosity
Log Generation dialog box appears.
3. Accept the defaults
OR
Using the Average Characteristics of Rock Types
table, type the matrix and fluid parameters.
4. Click OK.
Note: If your source curve units are USEC/F
or US/F, type 55 in the matrix
box and 189 in the fluid
box (for SPSS).
