Selecting Datums

Using either the Cross Sec > Properties menu or the keyboard, you can set structural or stratigraphic datum.

Subsea as structural datum

Lower formation top as structural datum
 

Only formations that span all wells in a cross section can be used as stratigraphy datum.

To set datum

1. From the Cross Sec menu, select Properties ().

The Cross Section/Single Log View Common Properties: Datum/Space dialog box appears.

  To set structural datum, in the Datum box, select Subsea.

 To set stratigraphic datum, in the Datum box, select the top to set as your baseline.

Note: Tops that don't appear in the drop-down box do not span all wells. Add the top to all logs then select it as stratigraphy datum.

 2. Click OK.

To set datum using the keyboard

1. In the cross section area, click to select the top to set as your baseline.

The top appears with three handles.

2. From the Cross Sec menu, select Use selected top as datum
OR

Press d on the keyboard.

Note: If the Use selected top as datum option is grayed or if pressing d on the keyboard has no effect, the top you want to set as the baseline does not span all wells. Add the top to all wells then select it as stratigraphic datum.

  To set subsea as your datum, from the Cross Sec menu, select Set structural datum
OR

Press s on the keyboard.

3. To deselect the top, click another area of the cross section.
