Placing Formation Tops

You can subdivide the area between your start and stop formations with tops you define (markers). For example, if the start formation is Viking Sand and the stop formation is Joli Fou, you can place tops between the start and end tops to mark sandstone, shale, and limestone.

If working in AccuX DB mode, tops you place can be either AccuMap tops, which are written to the AccuMap database of user tops, or generic tops, which are only saved with the current project.

If working with Project mode, all tops are considered generic tops.

To place formation tops or pay layers

1. Click top () on the Standard toolbar.

When you move your cursor over the cross section area, a top appears below your cursor.

2. Scroll to the desired location using the window scroll box or scroll arrows.

3. Click to place the top then double-click it to set its mnemonic and display properties.

The Single Top Properties: Basic dialog box appears. The below dialog box appears when working in AccuMap DB mode. The dialog box that appears when working in Project mode has slightly different options.

4. Do one of the following:

If placing a generic top, either type the name directly in the box or, with the Generic User Top radio button selected, click Formation Lookup Table and select from existing generic tops.

If placing an AccuMap user top, with the AccuMap User Top radio button selected, click Formation Lookup Table and select from the AccuMap formation top table.

5. Click OK to apply your changes.
