Importing LAS Files from Disk

You can import the curves in a .las file saved to disk to either an existing well or create a whole new well based on the .las file. The curves in the .las file are added alongside any existing curves, they don't overwrite them.

You can import .las files using either the Map Viewer or the Cross Section Viewer.

For details on importing blank curves or additional curves from the IHS Energy Information Hub, see Related Topics below.

To import LAS files from disk using the Map Viewer

1. In the Map Viewer, right-click a well for which you want to import curves and from the shortcut menu, select Load Local LAS.

2. Browse to and select the desired .las file.

The curves are imported and then displayed in the Cross Section Viewer and the well symbol is colored blue.

To import LAS files from disk using the Cross Section Viewer

You can add blank digital curves (or actual curves) to a well log from either a local source or from the IHS Energy Information Hub. Blank curves can be used to manually digitize portions of raster logs (such as the interval of sands), or can be converted to a specific curve type such as GR, DT, RHOB, and more.

To add a curve from a local LAS file, the UWI in the LAS file must match one of the wells in your Map view.

1. While in Cross Section view, right-click the well and from the shortcut menu, select add digital curves from LAS.

The Open dialog box appears.

2. Browse to and select a .las file with the same UWI as the well you're working with and then click Open.
