Creating Residual Maps

You can display a residual map layer to identify local structure variations after removing common (harmonic) trends.

To create residual maps

1. In the left toolbar, click AccuX Vision ().

The Setup AccuX Vision dialog box appears.

2. In the Data Group list, select Tops then in the Data Field lists, select RESIDUAL.

3. Click the lookup button(s) below the Data Group list to display the Formation Lookup dialog box and select the desired formation tops.

4. Select the desired top, click OK to return to the Setup AccuX Vision dialog box, and then click OK to generate the map.

The residual map appears as a base layer.

5. In the left toolbar, click Residual Structural Map ().

The Residual Structural Map dialog box appears.

6. Drag the smooth grid slider to increase or reduce the smoothing for both the residual map and formation top overlay (if displayed).
The changes applied above also appear in the Smooth By box of the Map > Properties > Gridding tab.

7. Drag the trend components removing slider right to reduce harmonic trends.

8. To display the contours of the formation top upon which the residual map is based, select show subsea contours then type contour parameters and label display frequency.

9. Double-click the color box, select a contour color from the popup color palette, and then click Apply.
