Organizing Formation Tops

When working in Project mode, you can remove tops you don't need to improve system performance and simplify your work area. Because all tops in Project mode are generic, deleting a top in a well won't delete that top in the AccuMap user database.

You may want to keep tops from highly-ranked systems (the "Systems" column in stratigraphic charts) to serve as correlation markers.

When working in AccuX DB mode, before creating a cross section, you can select whether to include generic tops and AccuMap system and user tops. Only the top types specified are included with the cross section and if you neglect to include or remove tops of a certain type, you must change this setting using the Stratigraphy > Stratigraphy Options in the Map view then double-click the cross section line to launch it again.

To select the top types to display in AccuX DB mode

1. In the Map view, from the Stratigraphy menu, select Stratigraphy Options.

The Stratigraphy Options dialog box appears.

2. Select the top types to include when building the cross section and then click OK.

To remove generic formation tops from projects

1. From the Stratigraphy menu, select Stratigraphy Manager

The Global Stratigraphic Settings and Properties dialog box appears. The dialog box below is from Project mode. The one in AccuX DB mode doesn't include options to remove or rename tops.

To remove only one top, select the top in the stratigraphy object list then click remove.

2. To remove multiple tops click remove ranked.

The Delete Ranked Tops dialog box appears.

3. Click sort by name or sort by rank to group the tops you want to work with. To move a top to the top of the list, select it then click bring up.

Select the tops that appear above and below the tops you want to work with then click Delete.

4. In the Global stratigraphic settings and properties dialog box, click Close to save your settings.
